It’s emerged that Nottingham Forest tried to sign Manchester City starlet James McAtee on transfer deadline day.
The Reds were linked by the Daily Mail, with the Citizens player but once it emerged Forest were selling Brennan Johnson, they targeted better options.

McAtee did get a Premier League move, however. On transfer deadline day, he checked in at Sheffield United on a season-long loan.
The youngster spent last season on loan at Bramall Lane. He made 43 appearances for the Blades, scoring nine goals and claiming four assists.
At 20-years-old, McAtee looks to have a bright future with Manchester City. Now, he will get a crack at Premier League football with the Blades this season.
MORE FOREST STORIES
The central midfielder has already made seven appearances for the City senior ranks. Pep Guardiola appears to rate him highly and he will hope to shine in South Yorkshire.
Forest added central midfielders to their ranks on deadline day. Ibrahim Sangare was the top signing, with Nicolas Dominguez also checking in at the City Ground.
Jack Robinson is now at Sheffield United having previously played for Forest. He called the player ‘fantastic’ in April of last year and he will be delighted he’s rejoined the club.
Forest tried to sign McAtee on frantic deadline day
This would have been an interesting one. It’s fair to say that the Reds have done right by not adding him to the ranks though.

Forest wouldn’t have been able to sign McAtee on loan once they got Nuno Tavares through the door. Andrey Santos is the other loanee currently at the club from the Premier League and only two are permitted.
McAtee does look like a top player for the future. However, right now, Forest need tried and tested, with his progress at Sheffield United likely to be monitored accordingly.
