Nottingham Forest legend Garry Birtles has raved about striker Taiwo Awoniyi after his early season form. The talisman has scored three goals in four games and assisted the winner at Chelsea last weekend.
The Reds will hope that Awoniyi can continue in fine form as the season progresses. If the striker can edge towards 15-20 goals it would go a long way towards Forest having a good campaign.

Awoniyi scored for Nigeria last night. They thrashed Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 and the Forest man scored the third goal for his country early in the second half.
After last weekend’s game against Chelsea, Birtles was quizzed on Awoniyi. It’s fair to say he’s a big fan and he appears to love watching him play for Forest.
He told the Garibaldi Red Podcast: “When he’s fit and he’s on it, he’s uncontrollable. He’s got every attribute. He’s not the tallest, but my word does he hold the play up well.

“He’s good in the air, he backs into players well and he’s a good finisher.
“I love watching Haaland but I love watching Awoniyi as well. It’s not significant movement from him but it’s intelligence, it’s instinct and it’s brilliant.”
Birtles raves about Forest star Awoniyi
The Forest legend does have a point. Awoniyi is a man on a mission and he’s seriously starting to silence the critics who couldn’t wait to bash him when he first signed for the club.

Now, the £17 million that the club parted with looks like an absolute steal from a Forest perspective. The player is on fire at the moment and hopefully, he can continue to kick on.
Forest also signed Divock Origi during the transfer deadline day drama. That will give the Reds plenty of options in attack and that competition for places could actually help Awoniyi kick on even further.
