‘I don’t like’: Sky Sports pundit not impressed by what 23-year-old Forest player did vs City

Nottingham Forest forward Morgan Gibbs-White has been defended on Sky Sports News by Stephen Warnock. The Reds star played a big part in Rodri receiving a red card during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Lots of pundits have had their say on this one. It’s fair to say that Gibbs-White perhaps didn’t need to go down but ultimately, Rodri shouldn’t have put his hands around the throat of the Forest man.

Naturally, as Forest aren’t one of the big clubs, some pundits have gone a little over the top with their critique of Gibbs-White. Indeed, it’s perhaps a situation that he will perhaps look to learn from too.

Warnock was quizzed on the weekend’s incident as part of Ref Watch on Sky Sports News earlier today. He thinks the reason Gibbs-White went down is ultimately a sign of the times.

He said live on air: “It’s the right decision. You can’t do that. I don’t like the reaction from Morgan Gibbs-White. The point is, if you don’t go down, sometimes they say you don’t get the decision, would he have sent Rodri off had Gibbs-White not gone down? I don’t know. I don’t like the reaction from Morgan Gibbs-White but I also understand it.”

The Reds know how important Gibbs-White is to the way in which they want to play. As a result, it would be ideal for him not to get embroiled in this kind of stuff too often.

On Saturday, his reaction probably was unnecessary. However, players in the modern era simply don’t feel as though they will get all of the decisions unless they go to the ground.

It’s nice to hear Warnock go through this in detail. He makes a decent point that had Gibbs-White not reacted as he did, Rodri might have escaped what should have been a certain red card.

Fortunately, Anthony Taylor was on hand to issue the correct punishment to Rodri on this occasion. However, Forest head coach Steve Cooper will want Gibbs-White to avoid this level of controversy in the future.
