Nottingham Forest scouts believe that the club now has two players who could replace Brennan Johnson. The forward left the City Ground to sign for Tottenham on transfer deadline day this summer.

Johnson had been a revelation over the last two seasons at Forest. He scored 19 goals as the team were promoted during 2021/22 and then bagged eight times in the Premier League last season.

Now, the 22-year-old will hope to make a real name for himself at Tottenham in the coming months. He is currently injured, however, picking up a hamstring problem shortly after signing.

Forest scouts think two stars can replace Johnson

It proved a tough task to replace Johnson by Forest. He was an integral player but it would seem as though the scouts at the football club think two stars could be capable.

A report by The Athletic has claimed how the recruitment team viewed things in the summer. it’s been mentioned this morning that Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi are the two that people behind the scenes think can replace Johnson.

It’s been claimed in the article that the combination of the two can replicate the qualities of Johnson. It’s not believed that either of them are the same sort of player but the pace of Elanga and the direct nature of Hudson-Odoi make them similar in tandem.

Reds have to move on from Johnson

Johnson was quality for Forest. However, there is no point in dwelling on these things and ultimately, his departure allowed the Reds to do some great business.

Now, it’s up to Steve Cooper to find a formula that means the Reds don’t miss Johnson. Quite rightly, the belief is that Elanga and Hudson-Odoi both have qualities that can help bridge the gap.

Both players will need time in order to truly replace Johnson. Elanga hasn’t played much football in recent years, whilst Hudson-Odoi is looking to rediscover his very best form.

Cooper is the man for the job though. Clearly, the latest report suggests that there is some joined-up thinking with the recruitment and that should help the cynics understand the transfer policy.
