Nottingham Forest Under-21 star Sam Collins has delivered a devastating update on his fitness. The player was stretched off the field last night as a young Forest team beat Carlisle in the EFL Trophy.

The Reds won the game thanks to second-half goals from Josh Powell and Ben Perry at Brunton Park. It was the first victory that Forest have claimed in the competition as an under-21 outfit.

Collins has been an influential figure around the dressing room for the young Forest team this season. Last night, he was handed the captain’s armband but the night ended on a sour note for him.

Collins confirms Forest blow on Instagram

As expected to the people in attendance last night, the news isn’t positive for Forest midfielder Collins. He has taken to social media today to confirm that he’s suffered a broken tibia.

This is devastating news for the 20-year-old and he’d have been hoping to really kick on this year. The player has played virtually every minute of every game for the Reds in their Premier League 2 campaign and now he will be set for a period of rehab.

Collins typified his tenacious nature in getting injured. The problem arose when he flew into a 50-50 tackle with Owen Moxon and sadly came off worse than the Carlisle player.

Collins can bounce back from this

It’s never nice to see players suffer serious injuries before they’ve truly made their way into the game. Collins will have his sights on a professional contract and this represents a blow.

The midfielder will hope to get back to full fitness before the 2023/24 season ends. Under the influence of Warren Joyce, he was playing some tremendous football and he will want to get back quickly.

The maestro seems like a determined individual. His post on Instagram makes him sound extremely mature and he probably accepts that this can only make him stronger as his career progresses.
