Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna produced a great performance in Scotland’s 2-0 defeat against Spain last night.

The 26-year-old started in a back three and despite defeat against the Spaniards, McKenna played a crucial role in the qualifier.

McKenna was up against Alvaro Morata, a player who despite his poor spells in England, causes a serious threat at international level.

For large parts, the Scotsman had the 30-year-old covered – but the Atletico Madrid striker did manage to get on the scoresheet late on.

McKenna produces performance for Forest fans know he’s capable of

Last night was the type of performance Forest fans would’ve seen from McKenna during the Reds’ promotion-winning campaign.

Although the defender only had 27 touches last night, the fewest of any player who played over 45 minutes, the touches he did produce were crucial.

The 26-year-old won seven out of the eight aerial duels he contested last night, providing a real spearheaded performance at the back.

McKenna also made five clearances, with three interceptions as he tried to secure Scotland’s place at EURO 2024.

A potential headache for Steve Cooper

If McKenna can replicate the performance for Forest that he produced last night, it could cause boss Steve Cooper a potential headache.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the season, with the next few months crucial in his future at the City Ground.
