Nottingham Forest are facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of the injury sustained by Gonzalo Montiel last night. The 26-year-old was withdrawn after just 32 minutes of last night’s 2-0 win for Argentina over Peru.
The Forest man was in the team after Nahuel Molina was injured. Lionel Scaloni dipped into his squad and that meant a rare start for Argentina for Montiel.

Forest landed the defender from Sevilla in the summer. He signed for the club after the Reds identified a void at right-back and he’s competing with Serge Aurier for the spot in Steve Cooper’s team.
This is a bit of a body blow for Forest should the Argentinean be ruled out for a period of time. Aurier limped out of the game at Crystal Palace and Forest won’t want to lose another full-back.
Forest face anxious wait over Montiel fitness
According to El Intra, the player signalled to be subbed in the 32nd minute last night. It appears as though the problem is muscular and Forest are now awaiting the results of the medical tests.
Montiel is just starting to get his feet under the table at Forest. He’s made four appearances and his best came at Palace when he replaced the injured Aurier at half-time.
Given that Forest already have some doubts over the Ivorian, they won’t want Montiel to be out for too long either.

Neco Williams is in the squad but he’s not been included in Cooper’s plans in recent weeks. If Montiel’s prognosis comes back bleak then the Welshman might be thrown into action.
For now, Cooper will have everything crossed over Montiel. He will want to have as many top players at his disposal as possible this season and the international defender falls into that category.
