Brian Laws and Colin Fray heaped praise on Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood during yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Luton Town. The Reds were pinned back by the Hatters after going 2-0 up with 14 minutes remaining.

Wood was the man of the moment for Forest. His two goals showcased that he’s in confident spirits and it’s nice to see he’s stepped up in the absence of Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Reds could live to rue these dropped points. They are now without a win since September which is a run stretching back five games. They now face Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Brighton in the Premier League.

The Reds needed to see this one through. A foolish triple substitution seemed to kill the momentum that Forest had in this one and Steve Cooper must take responsibility for that.

Wood was a man who looked willing to step up to the plate, however. With Divock Origi now out injured for a few weeks too, the Reds are desperate for him to keep scoring.

Laws was summarising for Forest yesterday and along with Colin Fray, they had some praise for Wood. The 31-year-old took his goals very well and after the first goal, they lauded his goal.

Fray went first and said live on BBC Radio Nottingham: “He looked confident from the moment he got into the position to score.”

Laws agreed and he was delighted for the player. He continued: “I’m really pleased for Wood because he missed a couple of chances in the first half.”

Fans should lay off Wood – he’s vital at the moment

Wood has come in for a lot of criticism since signing. Forest landed him for £15 million in the January transfer window and he arrived at a time when Awoniyi was out long-term.

It wasn’t Wood’s decision for Forest to spend that money on a 31-year-old and after an injury kept him out of the business end of last season, he came back this summer desperate to prove a point.

Wood has looked fitter, stronger and willing to showcase exactly what he’s capable of to the supporters. His goals yesterday have taken him level with Awoniyi on three goals for the campaign.

Supporters slagging him off constantly is pointless. He seems like a good egg and right now, he’s all Forest have in attack until Awoniyi returns from his injury.
