Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has heaped praise on Chris Wood after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Luton. The striker helped himself to two goals as he took his tally for the campaign to three.
Forest striker Wood was starting once again with Taiwo Awoniyi still sidelined through an injury to his groin. He’s not expected to be out for much longer but the 31-year-old staked his claim for a place here.

Wood has endured a bit of criticism since signing for Forest for £15 million back in January. However, all he can do is keep scoring and proving his critics wrong.
Cooper raves about Wood after Forest draw
There are few better man managers than Cooper. He knows exactly what to say to his players to give them the confidence to kick on and improve their form.
Whatever Forest boss Cooper has said to Wood since the summer has clearly worked. He looks fitter, sharper and stronger as he’s now found the way to goal in the Garibaldi.
After Saturday’s draw with Luton, Cooper told Nottinghamshire Live: “Woody did really well getting two goals. If the game does not change on a set piece, that is what everyone will be talking about – how good we were.
“They (his goals) will get overlooked because of the way the game finished and the final scoreline.”
Wood can shine this season
The Reds are going to be minus Awoniyi for a little bit and even when he’s back, Divock Origi has now picked up an injury. As a result, Wood has become an integral player for Forest.

He will have an important role to play this season. All he can do is continue to score goals when he gets his chances and on Saturday he was denied a hat-trick in the dying embers of the game after straying offside.
Wood took the goals he did score very well indeed. Cooper knows that he enjoyed a positive performance on Saturday and he should have taken confidence from the two goals he managed to grab.
