Nottingham Forest almost signed Trevoh Chalobah during the summer transfer window and now he’s wanted by Manchester United. Chelsea are willing to let the player leave in January and the race is heating up.

Forest thought that they’d got Chalobah in the summer. On transfer deadline day, the Reds bid £25 million for the defender and although it was accepted by Chelsea, the player rejected the switch.

Chalobah has fallen out of contention at Stamford Bridge. He’s not been included in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad and hasn’t played in any fixtures during the 2023/24 campaign.

Manchester United now want Chalobah

The Red Devils are in dire straits right now and were battered 3-0 by Manchester City on Sunday. It’s quite clear they need some more energy in defence and are going to rival Forest for Chalobah.

According to Team Talk, the Premier League giants will make a move for the Chelsea player in January. It’s claimed that Chelsea want £45 million for the player but they’re flexible as they bid to offload him from their wage bill.

Rio Ferdinand is a big fan of the player. Back in 2021, he called the player ‘unbelievable’ after a strong performance in the UEFA Super Cup and he’d likely welcome him at Old Trafford.

Forest facing battle to sign Chalobah

Steve Cooper will likely go in search of a new defender in January. Players like Willy Boly and Scott McKenna will probably leave in the summer and options will look considerably weaker.

Chalobah has the athleticism that Cooper has spoken about adding before. He’s made 63 appearances for Chelsea in total and Cooper has also worked with him during his time managing the England under-17 team.

With United now in the mix, however, this one looks like a tough deal to complete. Forest will likely still have Chalobah on their radar but if United are serious they’re going to have no chance of landing the defender.
