Nicolas Dominguez has been a standout for Nottingham Forest since his summer signing but on Sunday he did something really out of character. The Reds were thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield and several players had an off day.
The man with 11 caps for Argentina checked in at the City Ground on transfer deadline day from Bologna. Dominguez was part of a deal that saw Forest pay a fee and send Remo Freuler on loan in exchange.
Dominguez has been in fine form during his time at Forest so far. However, Steve Cooper admitted on Sunday that he’d been forced to tweak the player’s position and it didn’t pay dividends at all.
Dominguez did something out of character on Sunday
Although the player grew into the game at Anfield, it was a truly awful start for the midfielder. He lined up as part of a midfield three once again, although he was the man tasked with breaking the line and linking up with Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga in attack.

Forest star Dominguez didn’t start the game well at all. In fact, his first three pass attempts all went to Liverpool players. It was quite remarkable given that the player’s main strength since arriving has been his ability to keep the ball.
The 25-year-old did recover a little bit. He had a pass success ratio of 73.9% having attempted 23 passes (Who Scored) and clearly those first three wayward ones had an impact on his numbers.
Dominguez is going to be so important for Forest
Despite an off-day at Anfield, there is no shame to be had for Dominguez and he will soon shake this off. The player looks like an exciting addition to the ranks and he will continue to grow as the season progresses.
Dominguez has largely been a breath of fresh air since he arrived. He scored the goal that saw the Reds rescue a point against Brentford earlier this month and he’s settling in just nicely.
At 25, he’s at a nice age and Forest have done well to get him tied down to a long-term contract. His start to the game against Liverpool will surely be a mere blip and hopefully, he can move on from this out-of-character performance.
