Nottingham Forest are still keeping their eye on defender David Garcia ahead of the January transfer window. The Reds tried to sign the Osasuna star as they searched for a new centre-back.

Forest are hoping to attack the transfer market once more during the mid-season window. According to Estadio Deportivo, Forest still like Garcia and are watching him closely.

The Reds did sign Murillo to bolster their central defensive ranks this summer. With hours of the transfer window remaining, the club also got a deal for Andrew Omobamidele over the line.

Forest still looking at Osasuna defender Garcia

This does seem like an intriguing one. Garcia was wanted by Forest in the summer and the Reds did make a bid, although the club were so incensed with the offer, they didn’t even reply to Forest.

The 29-year-old has been with Osasuna his entire career so choosing to leave wouldn’t be a decision taken lightly. He’s also the club captain at present and has played 12 times this season.

Forest-linked Garcia helped the La Liga outfit qualify for Europe last season. However, that dream died early this season when Osasuna were beaten by Club Brugge over two legs.

Garcia would be a strange signing

This would look like a bit of a strange signing. Although 29 is hardly old, it’s not really a signing of Murillo’s ilk that the club can nurture and probably make a profit on.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Forest wanted a right-sided version of Murillo and that’s not really Garcia. Although the player is right-footed, he’s not exactly the uncompromising figure that the Brazilian has proved since he came in.

Given that his current club seemingly want a high transfer fee for the player, a deal for Garcia might not be worth pushing for from Forest’s perspective.
