Expert thinks Nottingham Forest have the same conundrum as Arsenal

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper certainly has a big decision to make ahead of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.

Since his arrival this summer, Matt Turner has been Forest’s number-one, however, the USMNT goalkeeper has come under fire in recent games.

His latest mistake at Liverpool for Mohamed Salah’s goal has seen calls for Greek ‘keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to be handed his first start.

The 29-year-old joined from Benfica this summer, with Vlachodimos growing unhappy with his lack of game time.

Goalkeeping expert delivers opinion on Forest situation

In the latest column for The Athletic, goalkeeping expert Matt Pyzdrowski admits Forest’s situation is similar to the one facing Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

“Goalkeepers will sympathise with each other; there will be a lot of empathy there.

“There was a lot of sympathy when Arteta replaced Ramsdale with Raya. He did that very quickly, without any real justification for doing so.

“It is very similar with Forest. There is so much surrounding any decision Cooper makes.

“May the best man win, but at the end of the day one of the guys will be disappointed and, next summer, I think one of them will leave because of that; because they have not been playing.

“I cannot envision a situation — regardless of what Cooper decides — where one of these guys will not be disappointed and it will be very difficult to keep both of them happy. Perhaps it is even impossible.”

Does Cooper go with Turner or Vlachodimos this weekend?

After starting with Turner from day one, it is only fair that Vlachodimos is given his chance between the sticks this weekend.

Especially after Turner’s error at Anfield last weekend now feels like the right time for the Greek shot-stopper to showcase what he is capable of.
