Nottingham Forest defender Moussa Niakhate was in fine form on Sunday as the Reds defeated Aston Villa 2-0. Alan Shearer was very impressed and he’s named him in his Premier League Team of the Week.
Forest have been boosted by the return to full fitness of Niakhate in recent weeks. He’s had to wait patiently for a chance to shine during 2023/24 after dislocating his elbow in pre-season.
Niakhate was simply brilliant on Sunday. Forest defeated the in-form Aston Villa to climb the Premier League table and pull clear of the bottom three that was starting to look a lot closer.
Niakhate praised by Shearer
The 27-year-old is a quality defender. Niakhate signed for the Reds from Mainz for a fee in the region of £10 million with a number of add-ons also included in the deal.
Niakhate started alongside Murillo at the weekend during a third win of the season for Forest. Shearer was very impressed and delivered praise on the Senegalese star.

He told the Premier League’s official website: “Commanding performance, Ollie Watkins was kept quiet all match.”
Shearer was very complimentary of Forest at the weekend. Niakhate was joined in the Team of the Week by his Forest teammate Ola Aina.
Niakhate is number one Forest defender on form
When he’s fully fit and in form, there is nobody better at Forest than Niakhate when it comes to central defenders. He showcased that class on Sunday with a dominant performance.
The talented and experienced player could potentially captain Forest in the future. He was constantly barking orders at his teammates during the weekend win and clearly, he’s respected.
Niakhate is a real diamond at Forest. He will now hope to stay injury-free this season and enjoy an extended run in the team.
