USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter has shared the first thing he did after finding out Matt Turner had been dropped by Nottingham Forest.

Steve Cooper replaced the 29-year-old American with Odysseas Vlachodimos who kept a clean sheet on his debut against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Before the Villa win, Turner had played every minute for the Reds since his summer arrival from fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

However, after his mistake against Liverpool, boss Cooper opted to give the Greek international his debut, with Vlachodimos taking the opportunity with both hands.

Berhalter on Turner being dropped by Forest

In a report published by the Daily Mail, the 50-year-old confirmed he messaged Turner as soon as he heard the news of him being replaced.

“I spoke to Matt [Turner] as soon as I saw the news that he didn’t start for [Nottingham] Forest.

“This is part of playing in the best league in the world right? I mean, this is all part of a player’s journey – there’s ups and downs.

“For [Turner], it’s about being mentally strong enough to endure this. You see it every week, players get dropped. For him, he has to have the right mentality.

“We’ve spoken about it, he’s refocused and competing every single day in training and waiting until he can get an opportunity again.”

Vlachodimos looks to be Forest’s number-one

The Greek international displayed his brilliant distribution, looking much more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Turner.

It is safe to say, after Sunday’s performance the number one spot is Vlachodimos’ to lose. Hopefully, he can produce another solid display against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
