Nottingham Forest are expected to sign Nino in January and on Saturday night he was sent off for Fluminense. Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio has now discussed why he sent off the central defender.

Nino is set to join Forest in a deal worth £6 million. He recently helped his current club win the Copa Libertadores and he’s also been rewarded for some strong form with a Brazil call-up.

The 26-year-old looks like a very useful central defender. He has spent many years with Fluminense and has made over 200 appearances for the club.

Referee explains why he sent Nino off on Saturday

Aggression looks like one attribute that Nino will bring to Forest. He was dismissed on Saturday after a tussle with Gabriel Barbosa as Fluminense drew with Flamengo.

Sampaio has explained to O Dia why he sent off Forest-bound Nino at the weekend. He said: “He was sent off for holding the opponent’s neck with both hands, twice, in an aggressive and hostile way, generating a conflict between them and players from both teams.”

Nino has made over 50 appearances during the current campaign for Fluminense. He’s not expected to join Forest until January when he’s taken part in the Club World Cup with his current club.

Nino could prove useful signing for Forest

Hopefully, the player can keep his hands off opposition defenders when he checks in at Forest. It sounds as though he got caught in the heat of the moment and it was his second red card for the season.

Nino does look like a very useful player though. He’s clearly a talented defender and that much is obvious with him being called up for the Brazil squad for forthcoming games with Argentina and Colombia.

Steve Cooper might have a job to curb Nino’s enthusiasm at Forest. It will be a challenge he relishes, however, and hopefully, the defender can prove a shrewd addition to the Forest ranks.
