Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga won’t be joining up with Sweden this week after picking up an injury against West Ham. The player scored his second goal for Forest at The London Stadium but does appear to have collected a niggle.
Elanga was in fine form on Sunday as Forest were beaten 3-2 by the Hammers. It was a game that Forest should have taken something from and ultimately they can only have themselves to blame.
Defending set-pieces has become a bit of a nemesis for Forest of late. Now, they will hope to work on some things over the international break and come back stronger against Brighton next time out.
Elanga injured during West Ham game
This is a blow to Forest and the hope will be that this is more of a tactical ploy by Elanga. He was ruled out of the Sweden squad earlier in the season but made a recovery in time to play in the next Forest game.
Sweden head coach Janne Andersson told Fotbollskanalen: “Something happened during the match (against West Ham) that caused him to suffer an injury. The club has to communicate what the status is, but it was not good enough for him to contribute during the international break.”

Elanga signed for Forest in the summer of 2023. He cost the club £15 million from Manchester United and he’s busy showcasing what the Red Devils are missing with some strong Forest form.
Forest need Elanga fit and firing this season
The 21-year-old has made a wonderful start to the campaign. Elanga had to wait patiently for a starting berth but since Callum Hudson-Odoi got injured he’s started every game.
Hopefully, this is nothing more than Forest preserving Elanga ahead of the next game. Sweden can’t qualify for Euro 2024 and their games against Azerbaijan and Estonia are little more than dead rubbers.
Elanga was in fine form for Forest as they lost 3-2 at the weekend. Hopefully, he can now rest up and be good to go when Brighton arrive on Trentside in just under two weeks.
