Nick Miller has explained when he thinks Nottingham Forest will decide to sack Steve Cooper. The Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis chose to stick with the 43-year-old last term but the journalist thinks things might be different this time.
Cooper has done an exceptional job at Forest already. He’s led the club back into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years and last season his team rallied to achieve survival.
Forest have made a pretty underwhelming start to the 2023/24 campaign. They’ve won just three times this season and some are starting to question whether or not Cooper will keep his job.
Miller thinks Cooper will be sacked this season
This is an interesting take and it won’t make Miller happy to say it. The very reputable journalist writes for The Athletic and he’s been quizzed on the season so far during a recent article.

On who the first manager to be sacked in the Premier League will be, he answered: “Steve Cooper. Manchester United probably can’t afford to sack Ten Hag, Bournemouth’s recent wins will give Iraola some time and pretty much everyone else looks reasonably safe. Aside from Cooper.
“Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis got plenty of praise for keeping Cooper last season but, by his own admission, that was mainly because he couldn’t get anyone better. As soon as there’s another dip in results, and a valid replacement makes themselves known, he’ll pull the plug.”
Miller makes good points but Forest will be savvy over Cooper
In total honesty, it’s hard to disagree with the points that Miller has made. It was reported at one stage last season that Marinakis was eyeing up other managers; with Jorge Sampaoli one of the names linked.
Now, the club could be a little bit savvier, however. The club are still seven points off the relegation zone and there is no immediate danger of Forest slipping into the relegation zone.
Cooper is part of the furniture at Forest these days. The 43-year-old has the vast majority of the backing from the City Ground faithful and it doesn’t seem as though the Reds will be in the market for a new head coach just yet.
