Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has chosen who he thinks is the toughest opponent in training. The Reds striker has been part of an interview featuring several Premier League players on YouTube.

Awoniyi has recently returned from injury to bolster the Forest attack. He scored his first goal since August against West Ham on Sunday as the Reds lost 3-2.

The 26-year-old arrived at the City Ground from Union Berlin in the summer of 2022. He cost the club around £17 million and last season he scored 11 goals across the campaign.

Forest striker Awoniyi picks toughest opponent in training

It’s always an intriguing topic of discussion. Awoniyi has picked Forest defender Scott McKenna as the toughest to face of his own teammates, despite the Scotland star being out of favour.

Awoniyi told Premier League Productions on YouTube when asked to pick his toughest teammate at Forest: “Scott McKenna because he’s such a tough defender.”

The international player is set to leave the City Ground in the coming months. Yesterday, it was reported that Fenerbache were keen to sign McKenna, with his contract to expire next summer.

Surprise Awoniyi comment speaks volumes of McKenna

The defender shouldn’t leave with any criticism attached to him. He’s served the club with distinction and clearly, Awoniyi won’t miss facing him in Forest training!

It’s quite intriguing that Awoniyi picks him as the toughest opponent of his own teammates. Right now, he has Moussa Niakhate, Murillo and Willy Boly all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Forest are blessed to have Awoniyi and he’s started to showcase just how important he is to the ranks and how Steve Cooper’s team play. For McKenna, he’s now on borrowed time and he should be wished well when the time comes for him to leave.
