How Nottingham Forest’s board actually feel about Steve Cooper’s future after this weekend’s defeat

Nottingham Forest are not thought to be close to pulling the trigger and ending Steve Cooper’s tenure as the club’s head coach.

The Reds suffered another 3-2 defeat at the weekend, this time to Brighton as they lost at the City Ground for the first time this season.

After the game, reports emerged from the Daily Mail. It was claimed that Cooper was under pressure at Forest following another defeat.

Those claims do seem a little premature, however, with a new report now claiming exactly how the board feel about things.

Forest hierarchy calm about Cooper situation

The Athletic have now written a report on the future of Cooper and for now, it’s good news it would seem.

They believe that despite the defeat to Brighton they are relatively calm about the situation at present.

It also suggests that the scenario could become bleaker should Forest not show significant improvement against Everton on Saturday.

Cooper saw his name linked with the chop twice last season. At one stage, it was thought that Patrick Vieira had been lined up as his replacement.

Evangelos Marinakis stood firm, however. He chose to stick rather than twist and Cooper led Forest to Premier League survival.

Should Cooper be handed his p45?

In a word, no.

We believe that Forest have the right man to lead the team back up the table once again and he still has some banked at the moment.

With a winnable run of games to come, this mini-run before Forest play Tottenham in December feels massive for Cooper, however.

Forest need to get some more points on the board and games against Everton, Fulham and Wolves are likely to decide the fate of Cooper.

The head coach hasn’t just worked wonders for Forest on the pitch but he’s also bought into the ethos away from it.

As a result, it would likely be an unpopular call to get rid of him and Mariankis is an intelligent man.

Cooper will be fully aware he needs to oversee a good run of form to keep hold of his job.

Marinakis, however, is unlikely to pull the trigger until an outstanding candidate emerges to take over from the promotion-winning Cooper.
