‘I have full respect’… Brennan Johnson now says one Nottingham Forest man is ‘great’

Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper.

The Reds allowed Johnson to sign for Spurs in the summer and the club recouped £47.5 million for him.

Forest used the money to plug some gaps in their squad and they now have more balance within their ranks.

However, take nothing away from Johnson, his eight Premier League goals were vital to Forest and his pace will be missed.

Johnson raves about Cooper

The Wales international is getting his feet under the table quite nicely at Tottenham.

Johnson scored his first goal for his new club as Tottenham lost to Wolves earlier this month.

Forest fans will wish Johnson well at Tottenham, with the exception of the two games against the Reds.

Speaking to Football London, the 22-year-old has delivered praise on Cooper and thinks he’s similar to Ange Postecoglou.

During the interview, he said: “They’re both similar in that they don’t think they’re anything they’re not. They’re really nice guys as well as great managers and I have full respect for both of them.

“Steve gave lots of trust to me, especially in the final third, he wanted me to express myself and show my ability. Ange speaks so well, he knew me and what he wants me to do isn’t too different to Forest.”

Johnson right to praise Cooper

It may have been Sabri Lamouchi who gave Johnson his Forest debut but he owes a lot to Cooper.

When the Welshman arrived at Forest in September 2021 it was quickly obvious that he would become integral.

During the promotion campaign of 2021/22, he scored 19 goals and claimed 10 assists as Forest defied the odds.

Johnson had a season of two halves last season. He was pretty ordinary before the World Cup but after it, he was often sublime.

The time to sell Johnson was right for all parties, it would seem.

Forest needed the money to balance Financial Fair Play and in moving to Tottenham, he’s got to a massive football club.

Johnson remains very much one of our own and it’s nice that he’s found the time to praise Cooper.
