What Evangelos Marinakis was like in the directors’ box during Nottingham Forest’s defeat to Brighton

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is deeply ambitious and he watched on at the weekend as the Reds lost to Brighton at the City Ground.

The owner hasn’t been at every game since the club won promotion. However, he has been at home games more frequently than he was in the Championship.

Marinakis spent a hefty sum of money again in the summer. Ibrahim Sangare signed for a fee of £30 million and he was joined by 12 other new additions.

The Greek businessman will naturally want the team to stop throwing away leads. The 3-2 defeat at the weekend was the second time in succession that Forest have lost by that scoreline having led.

What Marinakis did during Brighton clash

When fans are at the City Ground, they don’t get a chance to see exactly what Marinakis is up to from his seat in The Peter Taylor Stand.

The Athletic has claimed that he was hardly happy with what he was watching on Saturday.

They claimed: “Marinakis has lofty ambitions for Forest. He wants the club to be challenging at the other end of the table, for a top-half finish at least, in the short-term. His frustration was writ large in his body language in the directors’ box on Saturday, as he gestured in frustration.”

The style of play has drawn criticism from some supporters under Cooper. On Saturday, the Reds took the lead but then didn’t have a real go until Brighton went down to 10 men and the scoreline was 3-2 to the Seagulls.

Marinakis cuts frustrated figure

The Forest owner is a passionate man who wears his heart on his sleeve. He only wants the best for Forest and he must have lots spinning around his head at the moment.

Marinakis gets a reputation for being trigger-happy, or indeed he has been at Olympiacos. With Steve Cooper, however, nobody can really see he hasn’t remained loyal to him.

Results need to improve though – and Steve Cooper will know that. The nature of the goals being conceded is very alarming and something needs to be done quickly.

Forest have a run of three games against Everton, Fulham and Wolves on the horizon. Those three look absolutely huge for Cooper and hopefully the results can ease the frustrations of Marinakis.
