Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Jacob Murphy from Newcastle during the January transfer window.

The Reds are hoping to land another winger when the window reopens and are plotting another raid on Newcastle.

In January of 2023, the club signed Chris Wood for £15 million and also took Jonjo Shelvey on a free transfer from the Magpies.

Murphy has only made five appearances in the Premier League this season, with just one coming in the starting eleven.

Murphy wanted by Forest in January

According to Football Insider, the Reds are keen to sign Murphy from Newcastle and a deal might not be too difficult to do.

The Reds aren’t alone in the race to sign him though. Crystal Palace fancy taking a chance on Murphy too and are planning their own bid.

The 28-year-old was an important squad player under Eddie Howe at Newcastle last season.

He made 43 appearances in total as the Magpies finished in the top four and qualified for the Champions League.

Forest added players like Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the summer but now Murphy is on the radar.

Murphy could be ideal City Ground addition

The player does have experience playing in the Premier League but Forest will want to do their due diligence on this one.

Wood has scored some goals since checking in but Shelvey has already joined Rizespor on loan after a bust-up with Steve Cooper.

As a result, Forest must make sure that Murphy is willing to come to the City Ground and be determined to make an impact on Trentside.

Rumour rating: 6/10 – The jury might remain out on this one in the short term.

Given the Wood and Shelvey transfers, fans must be forgiven for holding some scepticism over this one.

Murphy doesn’t appear to be a bad egg though and Howe has previously called him ‘brilliant’.

The winger currently earns £35,000-a-week at Newcastle and has a contract with the club until 2027.
