‘Caught the eye’: Nottingham Forest gem stars despite EFL Trophy exit

The Nottingham Forest B-Team saw their participation in the EFL Trophy ended last night but Ateef Konate caught the eye with his performance.

The Reds lost 3-0 to League Two outfit Doncaster Rovers at the Eco-Power Stadium. Forest were largely decent in the first half but succumbed to goals from Luke Molyneaux, Kyle Hurst and Joe Ironside.

Forest reached the knockout stages of the competition in their very first season playing in the EFL Trophy. They came through a group featuring Carlisle, Accrington and Harrogate.

Konate has caught the eye in the tournament this year. He has been mentioned as one player being monitored by EFL clubs over a potential loan in January.

Konate gets praise despite Forest defeat

The 22-year-old does look set to leave Forest in the coming months. He will be craving men’s football now and he won’t get that at the City Ground.

Konate signed for Forest from Le Havre and he has got a first-team appearance to his name. That came during the promotion season when he came on as a substitute against Barnsley.

He’s been a regular in the B-Team this season. His performances have been impressive and it’s good to see him developing as a player.

After last night’s game, Konate was praised for his efforts for the Forest B-Team. He went close to scoring with the game goalless and ‘caught the eye’, according to the Doncaster Free Press.

Konate needs regular game time

The talented attacker is desperate to sample some men’s football. As a result, it seems highly likely that he will get a loan move in January.

Given his age, Forest would have to register him to play in the Premier League. He’s not ready for that level of football right now and a move to the EFL looks likely.

Konate is perhaps a victim of the success that Forest have had over the last two seasons. With that in mind, leaving looks like the only option for the youngster next month.
