Dean Saunders has delivered his verdict on the situation surrounding Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest.

The Reds lost 5-0 to Fulham last night and they’re now edging into a relegation battle in the Premier League.

Forest were put to the sword by a Fulham outfit who never really needed to get out of first gear to defeat the Reds.

Cooper is now under pressure at Forest. Earlier today, it was claimed that the 43-year-old could be sacked with Marco Silva among the contenders to replace him.

Saunders thinks Forest will be fine

Naturally, the fact that Cooper has come under pressure has seen lots of pundits discuss the situation.

Forest have to go to Wolves on Saturday and it does appear that the head coach will remain in place for this weekend.

A Forest fan rang up TalkSPORT to basically suggest that Cooper now has to be removed from his position.

Saunders responded with some words of optimism and he believes that Forest will be okay this season.

He said live on TalkSPORT: “I’m not so sure about that. You (Forest) are better off than you were last season points-wise. He’s done a great job for the club.

“You’re not in serious trouble yet. A win or two wins and you are up in mid-table so I wouldn’t panic just yet.”

Forest need a win for Cooper

Cooper will know that his future is open for discussion right now, with just one win claimed from the last 11 Premier League fixtures.

Saunders does make some good points, however. There are still six points between Forest and the relegation zone and panic stations won’t set in just yet.

Evangelos Marinakis is very ambitious though. The recent form won’t be good enough and it’s fair to say that even a win at Wolves might not be enough to save Cooper now.
