Nottingham Forest are in touch with Julen Lopetegui as a potential replacement for Steve Cooper.

That is according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, who has shared on X the information that he has been given.

So, what has been reported about Nottingham Forest, Julen Lopetegui and Steve Cooper? Let’s take a look.

Nottingham Forest want Julen Lopetegui as manager

Well, according to Rudy Galetti, Nottingham Forest want to appoint Julen Lopetegui as a potential replacement for Steve Cooper.

The Italian journalist has claimed on X that Forest have already been in contact with the former Real Madrid and Wolverhampton Wanderers boss over taking the managerial role at the City Ground.

Galetti has claimed that the 57-year-old is “the main candidate” to replace Cooper as the Forest manager.

Cooper could soon be sacked, according to the reporter, who has noted that Lopetegui has already turned down an offer to manage in Saudi Arabia.

According to talkSPORT, Cooper is unlikely to stay in charge of Forest if the team lose to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday. There is speculation that Lopetegui himself is open to taking charge of the Reds.

Julen Lopetegui could be a blockbuster managerial appointment

While I do not think that Steve Cooper should be sacked as the Nottingham Forest manager, I have to say that Julen Lopetegui would be a huge upgrade.

Lopetegui is one of the best managers available at the moment. The 57-year-old has managed the likes of FC Porto, Real Madrid and Sevilla in the past. He has also been in charge of Spain and did extremely well as the Wolverhampton Wanderers boss last season.

Forest’s main objective this season is to avoid the dreaded drop to the Championship. I believe that Lopetegui would be able to do that with the Reds, and in the coming years, he could push the team to finish in the Premier League top 10.
