Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams produced a remarkable performance during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux.
The Reds needed a response after losing 5-0 to Fulham in midweek. Steve Cooper chose to make seven changes and that included bringing Williams into the fold.
The 22-year-old was starting a game for the first time since August. He did exceptionally well playing as a right-sided wing-back, setting up the Forest goal for Harry Toffolo.
Williams gets praise from teammates
After the game yesterday, Williams took to Instagram. He tweeted the word ‘Together’ and received some praise from Anthony Elanga, Orel Mangala and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Elanga was also one of the standout performers against Wolves and he posted to Williams: “My right-back.”

Hudson-Odoi simply chose a wordless response, posting two flame emojis to suggest that Williams was on fire for Forest.
Mangala posted a classy response. He said: “You will never fight alone!!!”
Other teammates also responded. As a result, it would appear that Williams is a very popular member of the Forest squad.
Williams will now hope to keep Forest place
Based on yesterday’s showing, Williams is now undroppable. The Reds performer was so impressive that even his harshest critics would be hard-pushed to find fault yesterday.
Cooper was very impressed with the player. He raved about him after the game and praised the player’s attitude and commitment to the cause whilst he’s been out of the team.
Williams will now strive for consistency at Forest. The wing-back role does seem to suit his best qualities and hopefully, the level of performance can continue with the more games he plays.
Cooper has always praised Williams for his commitment but perhaps he’s had better players ahead of him. Forest haven’t really had a top-performing right-back this season and perhaps this was the opportunity that Williams needed.
