Steve Cooper has explained that he wasn’t saying goodbye to Nottingham Forest fans after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.

The Reds dug deep to claim an important point in the Premier League and they moved another point away from the relegation zone.

Cooper has come under fire this month. Forest have now won just once in 12 Premier League matches and speculation has been rife over his future.

Forest face Tottenham on Friday night and Cooper will hope that he’s in charge at the City Ground.

What Steve Cooper did after Forest draw

Forest claimed a hard-earned point at Molineux and it stopped the rot of four successive defeats.

After the game, Cooper went over to the fans who had travelled and some felt he was saying goodbye.

That wasn’t the case though, Cooper explained, and he merely wanted to express his gratitude to the loyal supporters.

He told The Telegraph: “I was just saying thanks for your support and safe journey home. I’m just full of gratitude. I’m proud of the team, the spirit and the togetherness. It’s not about playing for me, it’s about playing for each other.

Forest now have a decision to make

This was a vastly improved performance by Forest and it might keep Evangelos Marinakis from swinging the axe.

Going on a game-to-game basis isn’t helpful for anyone, however, and a decision needs to be made today.

If Cooper isn’t going to get the sack by Forest at this stage of the season then perhaps the club would be wise to stay loyal to the head coach for the foreseeable.

Forest have a tough run of games over Christmas and they need everyone singing from the same hymn sheet.

Cooper is a respected figure as a head coach and ultimately, Forest are extremely lucky to have him in charge.
