TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher has explained why he doesn’t think Steve Cooper has been sacked by Nottingham Forest yet. The Reds incumbent has come under pressure in the past week following a poor run of form.

The 44-year-old has come into question following a run of one win in 12 matches. On Saturday the Reds did arrest a run of four straight defeats with a 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Harry Toffolo scored the Forest goal at the weekend and some comments he made after suggest the players are still playing for Cooper. Next up is Tottenham and Cooper is desperate to claim a victory.

Fletcher thinks he knows why Cooper hasn’t been sacked yet

The lead commentator on TNT Sports has made some good points today on Forest head coach Cooper.

Fletcher covered Forest for local radio many years ago and still follows the club closely to this day.

This morning, the pundit was on the latest edition of the Forest Focus podcast and he thinks he knows why Cooper hasn’t been sacked yet.

Fletcher said: “The biggest conundrum the owner has right now is that he clearly thinks things have to change whether that’s the manager or results, or both or whatever. There obviously isn’t anyone that he’s desperate to bring in and that has to be a good thing for Steve.

“It’s obviously being done through sensible eyes, if it was knee-jerk it would have been taken care of. He obviously feels that the man that he’s got is the man that he needs.

“That may well change but I would always say to fans, Manuel Pellegrini won a Premier League with Manchester City and the moment Pep Guardiola became available, they said thank you, Manuel, there’s your medal and your payoff, we need to now make the club better so Pep’s coming in.

“At the moment that manager isn’t available to the Forest owner but that happens at every football club, everywhere at some stage. I just think at the moment the owner is being sensible because he see a better alternative. He clearly has more faith in Cooper than he’s getting credit for at the moment.”

No news is good news for Forest boss Cooper

It’s alright some supporters demanding that the club comes out and publicly backs their manager. Ultimately, however, Forest are no different to any other club by not doing that.

Imagine if Forest did that but then Cooper lost six games on the spin. He’d be sacked anyway and the hierarchy at the club would look incredibly foolish.

Right now, Cooper is being backed on the basis that he hasn’t been sacked. As he alluded to at the weekend, he doesn’t spend much time thinking about it and is simply focused on the next game.

Forest fans would be wise to do the same. Cooper is worshipped by supporters at the City Ground and all that needs to be discussed is Friday’s game for now.

Fletcher makes some brilliant points regarding Forest. Quite simply something will have to give if the current results continue but all Cooper can do is keep striving for that win.
