Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner has now been nominated for an award following some fine performances for the USA national team.

Forest signed Turner from Arsenal during the summer transfer window. He cost the club around £7.5 million and he began the campaign as the number one.

Following an erratic performance against Liverpool in October, the goalkeeper lost his place to Odysseas Vlachodimos. On Saturday, he was restored to the starting lineup after sitting out for five matches.

The 29-year-old has been nominated for the USMNT Player of the Year award. He is firmly established as the number one on the international stage and now he could be handed an accolade.

Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun, Yunus Musah and Ricardo Pepi will challenge Forest star Turner for the annual award.

Turner has the backing of his manager Gregg Berhalter. When he was dropped he picked up the phone and rang the Forest man to keep his spirits high.

Steve Cooper has also spoken with fondness of Turner this season. He’s happy to have him at the club and he showed some faith in him at the weekend by giving him the gloves back.

Turner now has the Forest gloves to keep

It’s quite remarkable that Turner has managed to wrestle the gloves back from the possession of Vlachdimos. He must have been fearing the worst when he got dropped but he’s clearly worked hard behind the scenes.

Turner is now the man to oust between the posts at Forest. He played well on Saturday and he showcased strong shot-stopping skills throughout the contest.

Now, the USA star is back in possession of the gloves he will want to keep them. After his mistakes earlier in the season, the player will be keen to ensure that he’s not sat on the Forest bench any time soon.
