Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has claimed that Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has a big problem within his squad. The Reds lost 2-0 to Tottenham on Friday night and they’re now in grave danger of dropping into the bottom three.

Neville was in Nottingham on Friday night to cover the game for Sky Sports. After goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, the decision by Cooper to change his goalkeepers came into question from the pundit.

Matt Turner replaced Odysseas Vlachodimos last week at Wolves and he kept his place in the team for the Tottenham game. The man nominated for the USMNT Player of the Year last week made a glaring error during the defeat and now his position has come into question again.

Neville question Forest decision

It’s fair to say that Neville doesn’t agree with the decision that Cooper has recently made at Forest. He doesn’t believe changing goalkeepers is something that should be done on a regular basis and thinks it will hamper Forest.

He told Sky Sports: “You are never going to get stability and a comfortable position if you have got two goalkeepers going back and forth and there is a question between them – it is never going to work. I have never seen it work.”

Turner and Vlachodimos both signed for Forest in the summer transfer window. Turner checked in from Arsenal with the man in direct competition for his place joining from Benfica on deadline day.

Cooper has Forest conundrum to crack

The head coach is desperate for a win to ease some of the pressure on his position. The Reds face Bournemouth next Saturday, with Newcastle and Manchester United to come after that game.

Neville makes a good point about the Forest situation. Now is the time for Cooper to throw his weight behind one of his goalkeepers and give them the confidence of being the number one.

Turner did have some good moments on Friday for Forest. However, they were outweighed by the error that allowed Kulusevski to set the stamp on a pretty comfortable win for Tottenham in the end.

Cooper knows that having a decent goalkeeper at this level is a must. Now, the Forest head coach has to take Neville’s advice and stick with one for the foreseeable.
