Fabrizio Romano now claims that Nottingham Forest are close to appointing Nuno Espirito Santo as the new head coach. The Reds are set to sack Steve Cooper after just over two years in charge of the club.
The transfer guru has elaborated on his claim from last night that Espirito Santo was in talks with Forest. Now, it’s thought that things are close to formally being finalised.
Cooper’s final act looks to have been Friday’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham. Forest are now 17th in the Premier League and sit just five points clear of the relegation zone.
Espirito Santo set for Forest job
Romano made these claims just now on X, formerly know as Twitter, with the 59-year-old now travelling to England. Provided there are no late hiccups, Espirito Santo will be in charge of Forest this weekend.
It ends Cooper’s tenure at the City Ground. He led the club from the bottom of the Championship to promotion in a matter of months, giving the supporters a day at Wembley that will never be forgotten.

A run of one win in 13 matches has proved decisive for the head coach this season. He will now fall on his sword and depart the club, with Premier League clubs likely to be queuing up to take him.
New head coach will replace Cooper at the City Ground
The head coach hasn’t worked in England since a somewhat ill-fated spell with Tottenham. He won eight and lost seven of his 17 games in charge in North London and was quickly sacked.
Espirito Santo did an impressive job with Wolves and it will be hoped that he can do a similar job with Forest. He’s also managed Valencia and Porto during his managerial career.
His most recent job came overseas with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. He led them to a league title but was sacked amid political reasons after his team lost to a team from Iran.
Espirito Santo is expected to fly into England a little later when he will hold further Forest talks. Perhaps then the club will be making an announcement regarding Cooper and indeed the new head coach.
