What will happen with Nottingham Forest’s coaching staff once Steve Cooper goes

David Ornstein has delivered a big update on the future of Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper this afternoon.

After 27 months in charge, the head coach will leave the City Ground and he’s now been informed of the club’s decision.

Cooper came to Forest in September 2021 when the Reds were rock bottom of the Championship.

In a matter of months, he’d got the club playing brilliantly and led them to promotion into the Premier League.

Last season, against the odds, Cooper further enhanced his reputation by keeping Forest in the Premier League.

According to The Athletic, Cooper has been informed of the decision to sack him from the club’s hierarchy this afternoon.

It’s also claimed that a number of his staff will be departing with Cooper as the backroom team undergoes a shake-up.

As is usually the case, the new head coach, reported to be Nuno Espirito Santo, will get the chance to bring his own people in.

Alan Tate will clearly go as Cooper’s trusted lieutenant but there will be some question marks over the other coaches.

Andy Reid was promoted from within so it remains to be seen if Forest will find a role for him.

Steven Reid only rejoined the club in the summer and perhaps there could be a chance for him to work alongside Espirito Santo.

Steve Rands is a Cooper appointment and that will likely see the new man need to employ a goalkeeper coach.

Interestingly, Forest appointed Simon Rusk as their new set-piece coach last week and surely he will remain.

It promises to be a few weeks of upheaval in terms of the backroom team and hopefully Espirito Santo can quickly get some points on the board.
