Roy Keane shares whether he thinks Nottingham Forest were right to sack Steve Cooper

Roy Keane has had a disagreement with Jill Scott over whether or not Steve Cooper should have been sacked by Nottingham Forest. The Reds parted company with their head coach on Tuesday and replaced him with Nuno Espirito Santo.

Forest have gone on a run of one win in 13 games under Cooper. During that period, the Reds were battered 5-0 at Fulham, with Evangelos Marinakis venting his frustration after the game.

The Reds were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham in Cooper’s final game in charge of Forest. He oversaw a spirited display but ultimately, the defeat leaves the team seriously looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone.

Keane and Scott disagree on Forest call

Forest needed to do something to try and arrest their form. Cooper had seemed all out of ideas recently and against Tottenham, the team mustered just one shot on target.

On the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, there was an exchange between Keane and Scott over whether Cooper should have lost his job at Forest.

The conversation went as follows:

Scott: “The fans loved him. I was in Lapland with a load of Nottingham Forest fans. He’s done a good job.”

Keane: “What’s that got to do with it? Just because they love him. He’s done a good job.

Scott: “Do you think they should have got rid of him?

Keane: “I would have given him a bit longer. But I would say that about most managers because I have been there but this idea of people loving each other. The game isn’t about love. You have to win.”

Keane spot on about Cooper at Forest

Once again the man who served well as a player has hit the nail on the head. He’s always very opinionated when he’s giving his football-related thoughts and here things are no different.

Keane is spot on when it comes to the Forest fans loving Cooper. The 44-year-old will forever be remembered as the man who restored Premier League football to the City Ground after 23 years.

However, clubs can’t afford to stand still in the Premier League. Forest had stagnated under Cooper and although Jamie Carragher previously claimed that the head coach had bemoaned the number of players at the club, winning is everything.

Forest must now kick on and try to get higher up the Premier League. They are just five points above the relegation zone and after Cooper, the Reds players must now sort themselves out under Espirito Santo.
