Stuart Pearce raved about Chris Wood after his hat-trick saw Nottingham Forest defeat Newcastle United 3-1 at St James’ Park. The Reds came from behind to claim a huge three points and end a run of winless games.

Wood has started both of the games that Nuno Espirito Santo has overseen since he replaced Steve Cooper at Forest. He’s scored four goals during those two games and looks like a new player!

Wood signed for Forest almost a year ago from Newcastle. He returned to St James’ Park with a vengeance this afternoon and helped Espirito Santo claim a huge win.

Pearce raves about Wood after Forest beat Newcastle

The 32-year-old striker has come in for some criticism over the way he’s played in some games. It’s been a criticism really since the club decided to bizarrely fork out £15 million for his services.

Wood doesn’t feel like a bad character though. He tends to stay clear of social media and conducts himself on the pitch and the training ground with professionalism, with Steve Cooper praising Wood when he was at Forest.

Pearce was impressed with Forest striker Wood and told Amazon Prime: “I’ve got to say, very very clinical. I mean the first one is a tap-in but the second two are quality. They were just finishing off things that they were creating in the first half. In this one (the second one), the goalkeeper gave his wicket away there for me but he looked very very composed.”

Wood will now hope to kick on

A confident striker is a dangerous one in any league. Now, Wood will hope to continue playing frequently for Forest, stay fit and ultimately score even more goals.

Wood took his three goals very well. As Pearce alludes to, his first one was pretty simple but the other two needed him to show some composure.

Newcastle were outfought and outthought by Forest and Wood capitalised on some rare lack of concentration from Newcastle.

Wood has proved in the past that he can score goals in the Premier League and now, Forest fans are starting to see the very best of him.
