Anthony Elanga and Orel Mangala heaped praise on Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood after today’s win against Newcastle. The 32-year-old returned to his old club for the first time since departing and left with the match ball under his arm.

Wood scored an amazing hat-trick to make it four goals in three days for the 32-year-old striker. He scored in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth and has found the way to goal with aplomb today.

His performance was so good that Stuart Pearce raved about Forest striker Wood. He hailed his composure and his intelligence for his efforts during his 90 minutes on the pitch.

After the game, the talisman took to Instagram to speak of his pride and getting the three goals during the game. In truth, he might have scored more with Elanga failing to find him on a couple of occasions.

It was Elanga who claimed the assist for two of Wood’s goals. First, he squared the ball to give Wood a tap-in on the stroke of half-time and then in the second half he delivered a wonderful pass to put the striker through.

Elanga took to Instagram to rave about the performance of Forest man Wood. He simply called the link-up play between the two players ‘scary’ in a nod towards his two assists.

Mangala was an unused substitute during the win over Newcastle this afternoon. He was given a breather after a tough run of games and he simply posted: “Woodsyyyyy!”

Neco Williams, Ibrahim Sangare and Odysseas Vlachodimos also posted on the player’s social media as he lapped up the plaudits for his heroics.

Wood starred during Forest win

The striker is starting to prove himself to his critics. Wood was useful in Saturday’s defeat to Bournemouth, whilst this afternoon he scored a brilliant hat-trick.

Wood only scored once during the second half of last season. Naturally, that run of form led to some criticism of his performances and they were often justified.

This season he’s looked like a different player from the off. Wood scored in Forest’s first home game against Sheffield United and is now on seven for the campaign.

Wood will keep searching for a steady level of goalscoring form. With Taiwo Awoniyi out injured, he should keep getting game time and that could lead to him scoring more goals.
