Dave Kitson and Scott Minto believe Steve Cooper could now be set to take his first job since leaving Nottingham Forest. The promotion-winning manager was sacked last week and replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo.
Cooper spent 27 months at the City Ground and the fans fell in love with him! He was an extremely popular figure with his fist pumps after wins always catching the eye.
It’s no secret that he’s on the radar of Crystal Palace. The Eagles were linked with a move for Cooper when he was still in place at Forest and now Roy Hodgson could soon be clearing out his office.
Pundits think Palace could now appoint Cooper
It’s hardly a bold prediction in hindsight. When the time does come to say goodbye to Hodgson it feels highly likely that Cooper will replace him. No smoke without fire and all of that.
Now, Minto and Kitson feel that something could happen in the very near future. They were speaking on Stadium Astro after Palace lost 2-1 to Chelsea to remain in the sights of Forest.
Minto said: “I think it changes the picture quite a lot with Steve Cooper being available. I know for a fact that there are people who are keen on him at Palace but there are also people who aren’t.

“One of the plus points for Roy Hodgson is that he knows the club well. If it looks like you’re going to go down, who do you bring in, you bring in a Roy Hodgson. The fans aren’t happy with the style of play and now the problem for him is that there is a Premier League manager ready and waiting and the call could go in at any time. I’m sure conversations are being had.”
The discussion continued and Kitson claimed: “It’s a decision that Steve Parish wouldn’t have wanted and if you are going to do something, it’s in January. He will do it absolutely, yes!”
Cooper will get Premier League crack after Forest exit
In fairness, it’s easy to see why Cooper will get another Premier League job. He has a lot to contend with behind the scenes at Forest. For example, over 40 new players were handed to him since winning promotion and he still kept the club in the division.
The timing was right for Forest to go down a different path and appoint Espirito Santo. Still, Cooper had the respect of the players during his tenure and the way in bought into Nottingham as a city should be remembered.
Palace would likely be an intriguing job for Cooper. At Selhurst Park, the recruitment has largely been brilliant with the likes of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Marc Guehi all talented players for the future.
Forest have now moved on from Cooper. The head coach must now carefully map out his next move. Perhaps another crack at the Premier League will come sooner than he may have anticipated.
