Steve Cooper could soon be back into management just days after getting sacked by Nottingham Forest.

On December 19, Nottingham Forest decided to get rid of Steve Cooper as their manager.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis made the decision following the team’s struggles in the Premier League.

Cooper was fired after the Reds lost five of their previous six matches. Nuno took over at the City Ground, and things are looking up for the team.

Forest have won their last two Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Manchester United and are now five points above the relegation zone.

While I understand why Forest decided to sack Cooper, I have to say that the 44-year-old did a truly remarkable job at the City Ground.

After all, it was under the Welshman that Forest ended their 23-year absence from the top flight of English football. And he kept the team in the Premier League as well.

Birmingham City chance for Steve Cooper

Cooper could soon be back in management. On December 28, The Sun reported that Birmingham City are planning to try to tempt the Welshman into taking over at St. Andrew’s.

The report noted that Birmingham were considering sacking Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and bringing in Cooper.

And, guess what? Birmingham have now got rid of Rooney. The Championship club have announced on their official website that they have decided to part company with the former England international, adding that “the search for a successor begins with immediate effect”.

The door has now opened for Cooper, who has been linked with Crystal Palace as well, to get back into football management. It will be interesting to see if he takes the managerial role at Birmingham if he is offered.

Birmingham are 20th in the Championship table with 28 points from 26 matches, six points above the relegation zone.
