Micah Richards has explained that he didn’t understand something which Nottingham Forest did on Saturday against Brentford.

The Match of the Day pundit was speaking on The Rest is Football podcast.

So, what has Richards said about Forest from the weekend? Let’s take a closer look…

What Micah Richards has said about Nottingham Forest

Well, naturally on this week’s show the hot topic was the goal scored by Ivan Toney to equalise for Brentford on Saturday.

The Reds led early doors thanks to a great strike from Danilo but Brentford restored parity later in the half.

Forest eventually lost the game 3-2 and quite frankly they only have themselves to blame for certain aspects of the defeat.

Richards couldn’t believe what he was watching as Forest set up the wall to defend Toney’s free-kick.

The pundit told The Rest is Football podcast: “I just don’t understand. If you’re taking a free kick and Toney is right-footed, you overcompensate on the other side. But they went the other way. The keeper has that side covered, that’s the whole point! It was madness.”

Forest only have themselves to blame

Gary Neville called Forest ’embarrassing’ after it emerged yesterday that the club had written to the PGMOL – and he’s got a point.

Richards is right about Forest and certain players have to change their mentality and start thinking like winners in certain moments of games.

The defending for at least two of the three Brentford goals was nothing short of shambolic and ultimately Forest paid the price.

Once again Forest gifted a win to a relegation rival and also a team that now has an alarming run of tough fixtures.

The Reds have now dropped 19 points from winning positions in the Premier League and Nuno Espirito Santo has the same challenge as Steve Cooper in that sense.

With the threat of a points deduction hanging over Forest, the Reds can’t afford a slump and Espirito Santo will have to right the wrongs of Saturday pretty quickly.
