Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele has finally been given an opportunity and he’s impressed Nuno Espirito Santo.

The head coach has been speaking to Nottinghamshire Live.

So, what has Espirito Santo thought of Omobamidele’s performances at Forest? Let’s take a closer look…

What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele

It would appear as though the young central defender has impressed his boss during his first two outings for Forest.

Omobamidele was in the starting line-up for last week’s game against Blackpool and after scoring, he kept his place in the Forest team.

The 21-year-old did well against Brentford and seemed comfortable in the Premier League dispute Forest falling to a 3-2 defeat.

After Saturday’s game, Espirito Santo was quizzed on the Forest youngster and it would appear that he was pretty impressed with Omobamidele.

The head coach told Nottinghamshire Live: “He played well. He has all the abilities to grow and be a very useful centre-half.

“He is fast, he is good on the ball. We think he needs to improve some aspects of his game, but I think we have a very good option to build on. We have a very good player.”

Omobamidele will get more time to further impress

The youngster was a bit of a surprise addition to the squad when Forest added him on transfer deadline day and he’s had to wait patiently.

It’s only two games, but it really does feel like a case of so far, so good from Omobamidele’s perspective – and he will get more chances at Forest.

Forest have Moussa Niakhate and Willy Boly currently at the African Cup of Nations and options are currently in short supply.

Joe Worrall has been linked with Sheffield United, whilst Scott McKenna could also leave Forest during the transfer window.

That means that right now, Omobamidele is the first-choice at Forest and these comments from Espirito Santo should give him some confidence.
