Shay Given has hammered Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner after last night’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League.

The man who served Newcastle with distinction has been speaking with Metro.

So, what has the Premier League great said about Forest stopper Turner? Let’s take a closer look at his comments from last night…

What Shay Given said about Matt Turner during Forest defeat to Arsenal

Well, it was once again another night in which the American custodian pressed the self-destruct button and cost Forest important points.

The stopper somehow let Gabriel Jesus score from a tight angle when the striker simply had no right to squeeze the ball home.

Given can’t believe what he was watching when it came to Turner’s performance and he has criticised the Forest goalkeeper.

He told Metro: “It’s so poor. Espirito Santo will be thinking, what are we doing? I don’t think the goalkeeper Turner does himself any favours, you should never score from this.

“It’s just so simple. It’s one throw and five or six Forest players doing nothing, I know it’s a very tight angle and I don’t think the keeper should be beaten from there.

“Think how many saves David de Gea used to make with his legs. He tries to close his knee down it’s past him. He’s tried to go with his knee and he’s put it into his own net. If he goes with his left foot he just kicks it away.”

Forest have to stop playing underperforming goalkeeper

Quite simply put, Matt Turner can no longer keep playing in goal for Forest.

Alan Rogers said he didn’t rate Turner a few weeks ago and now a goalkeeping great has slammed his latest performance.

It’s impossible to put a price on a solid goalkeeper at Premier League level and Forest are going to do their utmost to sign one in the next day or so.

If a new stopper can’t be added to the ranks, Nuno Espirito Santo has to place his faith in Odysseas Vlachodimos instead.

Lucy Ward was on commentary last night and she claimed that Forest goalkeeper Turner left Espirito Santo shaking his head last night.

It’s easy to see why that would be the case and the head coach must be desperate to land a new stopper before tomorrow’s deadline.
