Two top Turkish clubs are now going to compete to sign Jonjo Shelvey in the summer after his exit from Nottingham Forest.

The news comes from The Telegraph who claim Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are keen to sign him.

So, what has been said about Shelvey and what does the future hold for him? Let’s take a closer look…

Two Turkish clubs want to sign Jonjo Shelvey

Well, it’s all been a bit of a strange situation with Shelvey since his departure from Nottingham Forest.

The player signed for the Reds from Newcastle in January 2023 and made just eight appearances before Shelvey fell out with Steve Cooper.

Now, according to The Telegraph, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are going to compete to land Shelvey in the summer.

Right now, the 31-year-old is playing for Rizespor and it emerged a few months ago that Shelvey was allowed to leave Forest permanently.

That initially caused some intrigue as the club had originally announced that the deal was on loan terms.

Shelvey has done well with his current club, scoring once – from the halfway line – and registering three assists.

However, Rizespor could now be vulnerable with other clubs keen to pounce and sign him in the summer.

Shelvey was chaotic signing for Forest

It’s been widely claimed that Forest signed Shelvey because Cooper wanted him – and, at the time, his Newcastle teammate Chris Wood.

Shelvey was always destined to be a pretty ordinary signing having spent so long on the fringes of the Newcastle team.

The fact he made just eight appearances isn’t overly surprising and but for one half-decent showing away at Fulham, he was largely ineffective.

Shelvey will still have options it would seem during the summer but thankfully he won’t be coming back to Forest on his sizeable wage.
