Well, it would appear that lots of players, coaches and pundits hold Hodgson in high regard given the reaction to his exit.
The 76-year-old has chosen to step down from his role after taking ill in training last week.
It’s a sad way for Hodgson to end his tenure at the Eagles, with Forest-linked Oliver Glasner waiting in the wings to replace him.

The 42-year-old has survived two managerial departures at Forest and that is largely due to his burgeoning reputation as a coach.
Chris Hughton added Reid to the Forest coaching staff and he was kept on when Steve Cooper came to the club.
He has left Forest once and come back after taking a year out to set up a Mental Health programme for men in football.
Hodgson was responsible for giving Reid one of his first jobs in coaching when he took him to Palace in September 2017.
Clearly, he values him as a person incredibly and Forest coach Reid has now posted a classy response that typifies him as a man.
In our view, Reid is an asset to Forest and the fact that he keeps getting kept on at the club says what he’s capable of as a coach.
