It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for Arvin Appiah following his departure from Nottingham Forest – and now Almeria are ready to wash their hands of him.

This news comes from Diario de Almeria.

So, what has the Spanish publication said about Forest academy graduate Appiah? Let’s take a closer look…

Almeria have given up on Arvin Appiah

Well, it’s looking like the end of the road for the 23-year-old in Spain – with Almeria now admitting defeat over the winger.

They surprisingly paid £8 million to Forest to land Appiah in 2019 but things just haven’t worked out for him.

He’s currently on loan with Rotherham United and has started just five games during the current campaign.

In November, Appiah suffered the embarrassment of being withdrawn after just 26 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday.

Now, a report from Diario de Almeria claims that the club’s owner, Turki Al-Sheikh has now admitted defeat over the player.

It’s claimed that the Forest winger was viewed as someone who could be a real asset in Spain but things haven’t worked out.

In five years, Appiah has made 62 appearances for Almeria and spent time on loan with Malaga, Tenerife and Lugo.

Future now uncertain for Forest academy graduate Appiah

It’s sad to see in some senses that Appiah hasn’t been able to showcase his true potential as a player.

In the summer he will be out of contract with Almeria and it’s hard to decipher where he might get picked up.

The report says that Almeria believe Appiah’s value has continuously depreciated and ultimately, a player signed from Forest for £8 million will leave for free.

In our view, this was great business from a Forest perspective – even if cashing in on Appiah was largely unpopular at the time.

He made just eight appearances for the Reds, scoring his only goal in the Carabao Cup against Burton Albion.

As with any academy graduate who leaves, however, fans would have wished him well when he headed to Almeria.

With that in mind, you’d have to be a cold-hearted Forest fan not to offer Appiah the slightest bit of sympathy given the path his career has taken since leaving.
