‘I’ve really worked’… 21-year-old Forest player says Nuno has been telling him to use his left foot more

Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga has explained that he’s been enjoying his football under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The winger has been speaking with The Times.

Well, it would appear as though the 21-year-old has been asked to do some different things under Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese became the new head coach in December and he’s set about reviving Forest.

Ultimately, some of the defensive frailties remain but going forward it’s chalk and cheese from Steve Cooper’s time at the club.

Now, Elanga has been quizzed on the new boss and it’s clear that he’s happy to be learning under Espirito Santo.

He told The Times: “It’s all about learning and improving and something I’m especially grateful for, with Nuno coming in, is that it’s not just all about running in behind.

“It’s about getting in between the lines in tight spaces, and that’s something I’ve really worked on since the start when he came in and that’s something I’ve been getting better at.

“I want to be unpredictable, use both feet which I’m good at, go down the line, left foot, right foot, cut inside and I’m enjoying it.”

It’s really quite remarkable how well Elanga has done for Forest this season given that he’d not played much last season at Manchester United.

He cost Forest £15 million in the summer and he’s filled the Brennan Johnson void with aplomb.

Elanga has scored five goals and claimed seven assists during 2023/24 and that’s a very useful return.

It’s interesting when players speak about the differences between managers.

Elanga is clearly being asked to do some other stuff under Espirito Santo and it appears to be paying dividends.

In our view, the 21-year-old has been fantastic for Forest this season and keeping him fit could be integral to the fortunes of the Reds.
