Nottingham Forest defender Felipe has just announced that he will retire from playing football at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

This bombshell has been dropped by the player on his official Instagram account.

So, what has Forest star Felipe said about his future? Let’s take a closer look…

Nottingham Forest player Felipe announces retirement at the end of the season

Well, this does come as a bit of a shock to be honest, with Felipe more than capable of doing a job somewhere.

At 34-years-old, it was highly unlikely that Forest would keep him on but he’s still a very capable defender.

It was reported recently that Forest star Felipe had some other offers ready for when he left the Reds in the summer.

Now, he’s taken to Instagram tonight to announce that he will stop playing football once this season ends. It reads:

Felipe has been a quality signing for Forest since joining the City Ground for £1.8 million from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

He’s made 23 appearances for Forest in total and he’s become a fan favourite during his short time at the club.

Last season, he was called ‘sensational’ by Stephen Kelly after a dominant performance during a 4-3 win over Southampton.

Who will replace Felipe at the City Ground

Well, Forest will have been preparing for this eventuality anyway, with a new contract highly unlikely for the defender.

The most likely option to replace Felipe at Forest will be Murillo stepping into the shoes of his compatriot.

However, Forest will need to stay up to keep hold of him and Andrew Omobamidele shouldn’t be discounted.

The youngster has looked very accomplished when called upon and he looks like he’ll be at the club next year.

Forest also have Moussa Niakhate still at the club and it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the summer.

Felipe will hopefully sail off into the sunset with Forest assured of another season in the Premier League.

Whatever happens, the Brazilian can hold his head up high knowing that he always gave his all every time he pulled on the Garibaldi.
