Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels has come under fire from Shay Given after the Reds lost 1-0 at Brighton yesterday.

The former Newcastle goalkeeper was speaking to Match of the Day 2 last night.

So, what has Given said about Forest goalkeeper Sels after yesterday’s defeat? Let’s take a closer look…

What Shay Given has said about Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels

Well, if anyone is capable of providing analysis on goalkeepers it’s Given – with the player extremely capable in his day as a player.

The Reds fell to an own goal scored by Andrew Omobamidele and on the day it didn’t feel like a major error from the goalkeeper.

However, Given doesn’t agree and he thinks that the 32-year-old Sels simply has to do better in that situation for Forest.

He told Match of the Day 2: “I think Matz Sels has to do better. It’s poor goalkeeping, to be honest, he’s got to clear it.

“They’ve chopped and changed all season. He’s just got to do better.”

Sels signed for Forest on transfer deadline day at the end of the window in January from Strasbourg.

When Sels departed it was met with angst by Strasbourg fans and he’s been ever-present in the Premier League since arriving.

Lots of Forest player must take a look in the mirror

In our view, Given deserves his opinion and as a former goalkeeper, we value his input on this goal conceded by Forest.

However, Sels was otherwise pretty steady and in all honesty, there are other players who need to look in the mirror too.

Forest were never threatening enough yesterday and ultimately, the Reds are sleepwalking back to the EFL.

Sels is still adapting to life in the Premier League and the Forest man is working hard to claim more clean sheets.

In truth, the Reds need to ensure they start rolling their sleeves up and ultimately Sels is the least of the team’s worries right now.
