Some details have emerged from the Nottingham Forest PSR report on the sale of forward Gustavo Scarpa. The 30-year-old was sold in January to Atletico Mineiro after a short time at the City Ground.
Forest were hit with a four-point deduction yesterday, with the Reds now in the Premier League’s relegation zone. Following the announcement, some further information came to light on Scarpa.
Forest took a chance on Scarpa during the January transfer window in 2023. The move didn’t really work out though and he made just 10 appearances for the club before heading to Olympiacos on loan.
PSR report shows details of Forest selling Scarpa
It’s fair to say that Forest did the right thing by offloading Scarpa permanently. His European dream didn’t quite pan out and he was never going to cut it in the Premier League.
His performances weren’t bad for Forest in the Premier League and after a 2-0 win over Leicester, Ian Wright did rave about Scarpa, calling him ‘brilliant’.
Now, according to The Athletic, it’s claimed that Forest received a pretty tidy sum of £4.3 million when they sold Scarpa.
To say the club signed him on a free transfer, that does represent decent business and at least Forest did manage to make a profit on the surplus player.

Scarpa has played nine times for his new club and is yet to register a goal contribution back on Brazilian soil.
Forest must learn from poor signings in the future
Well, on the face of things, this one did look like a low-risk deal. Scarpa won the Golden Ball when Palmeiras won the league in 2022 and on a free it felt like a no-brainer.
Ultimately, things didn’t work out. Scarpa suffered injury problems at Forest and was also forced to return to Brazil for a short period after being scammed financially.
Forest have to learn lessons in terms of recruitment, however. Scarpa never really looked like having the required quality for the Premier League and a more meticulous approach to the market is required in the future.
