Nottingham Forest look set to receive an injury boost ahead of their return from the international break.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will return to the City Ground next Saturday when they host Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace.

And it seems they may have one of their important players fit for the game as they look to bounce back from their recent points deduction.

Chris Wood injury news

Chris Wood was withdrawn in the recent draw with Luton Town in the 75th minute after receiving a knock.

However, it seems this may have been a precautionary substitution as the New Zealand international is believed to be fit for the game against Palace.

This is according to The Telegraph, who claim the 32-year-old is expected to be fit for the game next Saturday.

Wood has recently suffered from a hamstring issue, but he has played in the last two games for Espirito Santo – even scoring against the Hatters.

What Nuno has said about Chris Wood

Forest have endured some struggles this season with their battle against the drop not helped by their recent financial issues.

The Premier League deducted Forest four points over the international break which has taken then down into the relegation zone.

But there is some cause for optimism with this injury boost for the game against Palace.

It has been a solid season for the £15m striker having netted nine goals in the Premier League alone for Forest.

Three of those came against his former side, Newcastle United, late last year during his fine run of form.

Following the game, Espirito Santo hailed the striker for his efforts on goal, he said: “Chris Wood, we know him, everybody knows him. He’s been in the game for a while now, but the way he did it today, how he scored, how he was in the right moments — the second goal is beautiful, it’s beautiful, the one-v-one and then the composure to just flick the ball over the goalkeeper, so thank you, Chris, for the job today.

“I really hope that he does it again because the talent is there.”

And it seems Forest will need to have Wood firing at his absolute best if they want to stay up this season.

They only sit one point adrift in 18th place following the points deduction.
