Nottingham Forest were deducted four points yesterday as their financial fair play charge came to light – and a report has explained what the club felt was actually acceptable.

This news comes from The Athletic and it would appear that Evangelos Marinakis is not impressed with the four-point sanction placed on his club.

Forest felt they acted in a completely appropriate manner throughout this. David Ornstein claimed the club felt this would work in their favour.

What punishment Nottingham Forest felt would be acceptable

Four points isn’t the worst outcome in the world, although Forest don’t concur. The club appears disgruntled with the outcome and Stan Collymore believes Forest will appeal.

The Athletic has now claimed that Forest felt a two or three-point deduction would have sufficed based on the nature of their charges – and their willingness to work with the Premier League throughout.

It’s also claimed in the article that four points would meet the threshold that the club feels they need to appeal. Six points would have seen Forest take legal action.

Forest must now weigh up their options in the coming days. The club has dropped into the relegation zone and must wait two weeks to put things right.

Will Forest appeal this Financial Fair Play decision?

Well, it appears as though Forest will appeal this decision as they look to save their Premier League skin. They will now have seven days to make that decision.

The million-dollar question is what actually happens when Forest make the appeal. If the committee overseeing the case are allowed to add even more points on, it surely become a no-brainer.

In our view, Forest have got off lightly here and they remain a point behind Luton. The Reds have some winnable games coming up and that will help.

Clearly, Forest feel hard done by with this financial fair play charge. Now, it must be used as a siege mentality and the players need to take out any anger on their upcoming opposition.
